Retirement savings growth
Project a US retirement savings balance with monthly contributions, annual returns, fees and inflation. Compare future dollars with today’s purchasing power.
Your scenario
Method and limitations
Net annual growth factor = (1 + annual return) × (1 − annual asset fee). Convert this effective factor to a monthly rate. Add the combined contribution at each month end. Today’s-money values divide by cumulative assumed inflation. Contributions stay flat in nominal terms. Returns are constant scenarios, not forecasts; no tax, contribution room or benefit eligibility is calculated.
This tool uses arithmetic scenario assumptions rather than a statutory pension formula.
How contributions and fees affect retirement savings
Use a conservative range of return assumptions rather than a single forecast. Enter the combined amount actually invested each month, including any employer addition. This tool does not enforce account-specific limits or calculate taxes.
Worked example
At zero return and zero fees, a $1,000 starting balance plus $100 at each month end produces $2,200 after one year.
